Vegan Choccie Treat

INGREDIENTS FOR BASE
•13 vegan Digestive biscuits (You may use any plain, sweetened wholemeal biscuit that is vegan if you are unable to find vegan Digestives if you are in the States or Canada you may use Graham Crackers)
•½ cup of walnuts
•½ cup of vegan butter, or coconut oil melted
•2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
•1 tsp coffee powder
•1 heaped tbsp icing sugar, or confectioner’s sugar powder
•zest of an orange or tangerine
•a pinch of salt

NOTE :
If you live in the UK, the Coop stock vegan Digestive biscuits (http://veggies.co.uk/2011/09/10/cooperative-wholemeal-digestives/), and also Marks & Spencer Digestive bicuits are vegan. If you are in North America, Graham’s crackers are a good alternative to Digestives.

METHOD FOR BASE
So, first grease an 8 inch tin, and line it with greaseproof paper. Then break the digestive biscuits into a processor, and process until crumbs are formed. Next add the cocoa powder, the coffee powder and icing sugar – pulse for a few seconds. Now add the walnuts to the processor, and process for a few moments – we do NOT want them powdered. Then add the melted vegan butter or coconut oil to the biscuit crumbs, and process for a half a minute. Next, add the zest and process again for a few seconds. Your base is ready to add to your tin – spoon this mixture into your lined container, and flatten evenly with your fingers and the palms of your hands. Now place this in the fridge for an hour or so until cooled. Now time to make your filling.

INGREDIENTS FOR FILLING
•1 packet (349g) Firm Silken Tofu
•125g dark chocolate, melted either in the microwave or bain marie
•3 tbsp cocoa powdered mixed with 50 ml of hot water (mix into a paste, allow to cool for a few minutes)
•2 tbsp agave syrup
•1 tbsp icing sugar, or confectioner’s sugar
•shavings of dark chocolate for topping and decoration

METHOD FOR FILLING
Place the tofu into your processor, and add the remaining ingredients. Process gently for a minute or so, until the ingredients are well blended and smooth. Spoon filling onto the biscuit base with a plastic spatula, and even out as best you can. Now add shavings of your dark chocolate on top to decorate. Next, cover with foil and place in the refrigerator overnight.

Cat Cow Yoga Pose - Yoga Meditation Studio Palm Beach YMSPB




Simple Cat Cow Pose 

  • A very simple but beneficial Yoga pose to practice, helps to loosen the spine and relax before practicing meditation
  •  Begin in neutral cat. On your mat - kneel on all fours, knees under hips and hands under shoulders. Nice flat back.  
  • Spread the fingers wide with the middle finger pointing towards the short edge of your mat. Be aware of the pads at the base of each finger as they contact the mat. 
  • Slowly inhale and look up. Lengthening away from your shoulders, keeping your neck long as you lengthen your shoulders down and away from your ears. 
  • Open your chest towards the front, taking the belly button towards your mat. Feel the gluts seperate.
  • Exhale, lower the head, chin towards the chest, keeping the back of the neck long as you round your back towards the ceiling.
  • Firm your belly and press the gluts together.  
  • Repeat for 4 to 6 breaths, moving smoothly between each move. Always practice with awareness of your breath and how your body feels. Keep it safe.
Benefits

Cat pose alleviates stress, helps stretch the back of your neck and torso and gently massages your belly and abdominal organs. When combined with cow pose, cat pose can help to develop breath control and awareness, which is one of the most important lessons you can learn from a yoga practice.

Contraindications

The cat pose is generally not advised for people who have suffered a recent back or neck injury or have acute or chronic neck or back pain. If you have a stiff upper back, it may be difficult for you to round your upper back.

YMSA - Meditation Kirtan Studio Suffolk Park Byron Bay - Meditation Evening, Vegetarian dinner


The most basic teaching of the yoga system is that a person is not the material body, or the mind, but the eternal spirit soul, residing only temporarily within the body.

“Where there is a material body there is also a spiritual body.”

  • Just as the body needs food in order to survive and be satisfied, the soul also needs spiritual food in order to feel truly alive and happy.
  • Meditation is the activity of using the mind to deeply reflect and focus continuously on spiritual matters.
 Invitation:

Our family gets together about once a month, with a group of friends to practice a very enjoyable and easy to do meditation. This meditation involves the use of sacred mantras and is a very ancient method of meditation, based on scientific principles.
The natural outcome of this practice is peacefulness, serenity and the gradual awakening of spiritual insights. This is the perfect meditation for this age. 

A beautiful voice is not necessary for this practice, but we do encourage people to listen carefully to the mantra's and sing from their heart. We use musical instruments to support our meditations so if you play an instrument and would like to bring it along with you just let us know.

We would also like to invite you to share a simple but delicious vegetarian dinner with us. You are welcome to contribute a vegan or vegetarian food item if you feel so inclined. That would be most appreciated. You can contact us if you are not sure what to bring. On saying that, let me assure you that there is absolutely no pressure or necessity to bring anything apart from yourself. You - having your first meditation experience with us is what is most important.  

We Live In Suffolk Park:

We have a nice relaxing meditation place in Suffolk Park so you will be comfortable and we're pretty sure you will have a nice evening.

Suffolk Park is only 5 minutes from the centre of Byron Bay, offering visitors a more leisurely pace. Most of Byron Bay’s residents live in Suffolk Park which understandably creates a more laid back atmosphere and unhurried tranquility away from the typical touristy spots in the Byron town centre.

Our local area has a carefree charm about it. Sandwiched between the Cape Byron and Broken Head headlands, you will find the splendid Tallow’s beach surrounded by natural bushland, great surf breaks and unspoilt stretches of white sand and blue ocean. A perfect back drop for a leisurely stroll and a great spot to practice meditation.

If you are a visitor and are all "beached out", you can also take in the peacefulness of ‘Byron Bay’s secret tea tree lake’. This lake is a sacred and traditional site for the local indigenous Bundjalung women and a beautiful spot to visit and experience the therapeutic and refreshing waters. Nothing like a good soak in the lake followed by a little relaxing meditation to help counteract stress and unwind.

Uke lessons for beginners - Palm Beach

Here's a little uke trivia: 

The Hawaiian word “ukulele” comes from uku (a flea) and lele (to jump).

 According to dictionary.com it was originally a “nickname given to British army officer Edward Purvis, who popularized the instrument at the court of King Kalakaua, in reference to his lively playing style.” 

Another theory holds that the term comes from the nimbly flying fingers — “jumping fleas” — of an accomplished player of the Portuguese machete, an ancestor of the ukulele. We play coz it's just so easy and so much fun. Come along sometime and practice with us.

Many people think animals don't have souls
Most think they are not 
capable of expressing emotion.

Here's a true story about a loyal and caring little swallow: 

A swallows partner was seriously injured.
She was hit by a car as she swooped low across the road.

He brought her food and tended to her.
He brought her food again but she had died.

He tried to move her....a rarely-seen effort for swallows.

Aware that his mate is dead, he cries.

Finally, he stands sadly beside her body.



People cried after seeing these pictures when they were published in the leading newspaper in France.

All copies of the paper were sold out on the day the pictures were released. Many people still don't think animals have emotions, BUT there are many stories like this circulating the globe via various social media platforms.

Ancient yoga texts tell us that we are all the same spiritual spark of life, only the body is different.

Spirit sparks, souls are capable of expressing emotion and feelings. To what degree depends on the type of body the soul inhabits. Some are more cognizant than others, however all life is worthy of respect. All deserve to be able to live a life of freedom, safety, and peace. We should offer all living beings our care and protection.

Simple Organic Treats


Yum Nutty Choc Delights

•  100gm Organic Milk Chocolate
•  100gm Organic Caramel Chocolate
•  ½ cup Organic Brazil Nut Butter
•  Some Organic salt or similar

How To:

1.  Melt your Milk chocolate over a double boiler. Once velvety smooth spoon about a tablespoon or so into little patty cases. Silicon moulds work beautifully. Place in freezer to until nicely set.

2.  Add a pinch of organic salt to the brazil nut butter. Roll into small balls (approx ½ teaspoon) and when the milk chocolate sets, place the balls on top.

3.  Melt your caramel chocolate over a double boiler and pour the mix slowly on to the brazil nut balls and milk chocolate, covering the balls completely.

4.  If you like salty chocolate, you might like to sprinkle a touch more salt on top.

St Francis of Assisi - Patron saint of animals and ecology

Flocks of birds would sometimes gather while Francis was speaking, and the birds listened intently to Francis’ sermons: “St. Francis lifted up his eyes, and saw on some trees by the wayside a great multitude of birds; and being much surprised, he said to his companions, ‘Wait for me here by the way, whilst I go and preach to my little sisters the birds’; and entering into the field, he began to preach to the birds which were on the ground, and suddenly all those also on the trees came round him, and all listened while St Francis preached to them, and did not fly away until he had given them his blessing.” While preaching to the birds, Francis would remind them of the many ways in which the Lord had blessed them, and conclude his sermon by saying: “Beware, my little sisters, of the sin of ingratitude."

After Francis died in 1226, people who were with him reported seeing a large flock of larks swoop down near him and sing at the moment of his death. 

Taming a Ferocious Wolf

When Francis lived in the town of Gubbio, a wild wolf was terrorizing the area by attacking and killing people and other animals. So Francis decided to go meet with the wolf to try to tame it, he left Gubbio and headed toward the surrounding countryside, with many people watching.

The wolf charged toward Francis with open jaws the moment they met. But Francis moved closer to the wolf and called out to it: "Come here, brother wolf. I say to you, do no harm to me or to any other."

People reported that the wolf instantly obeyed by closing his mouth, lowering his head, creeping slowly closer to Francis, and then lying calmly on the ground beside Francis' feet. Francis then continued talking to the wolf by saying: "Brother wolf, you do much damage in these parts, and you have committed great crimes, destroying and slaying creatures But I desire, brother wolf, to make peace between you and them so that you may no more offend them and that they may forgive you all your past offenses and neither men nor dogs may pursue you anymore."

After the wolf responded by bowing his head, moving his eyes, and wagging his tail to indicate that he accepted Francis' words, Francis offered the wolf a deal: Francis would make sure that the people of Gubbio would feed the wolf regularly, if the wolf would promise never to injure any person or animal again.

Then Francis said: "Brother wolf, I desire that you swear fealty to me regarding this promise, so I may trust you utterly," and held out one of his hands to the wolf. Miraculously, "the wolf lifted up his right forepaw and put it with friendly confidence in the hand of St. Francis, giving thereby such token of fealty as he was able."

After that, the wolf lived for two years in Gubbio before dying of old age, interacting peacefully with the people who fed him regularly, and never harming people or animals again.

Yoga Qualities


Hi yoga fans
Hope you are having a good day. Don't forget to keep up with your regular hatha yoga regime, check out the time table for a class in your area.
It is a normal part of a yoga lifestyle to become more sensitive to others. The life of someone who truly follows the core principles of a hatha yogi often begins to take on certain characteristics.

A person naturally becomes interested in, not just the physical or mechanical workings of the body, but a person also becomes more aware of the workings and subtleties of the mind.  
Ultimately the question of 'spirit' or soul crops up and questions like 'what is spirit' what does spiritual mean. Curiosity begins to arise through introspection and contemplation.

This is a vast subject indeed but one very worthy of investigation.

If you would like to know more and would like to discover how to truly be a good friend to others contact us, we would be happy to share what we have been taught by the great yoga masters and learned through the study of ancient yoga texts. Rest assured, any information shared will be based on a solid foundation of wisdom. A safe path with clear guide lines, a road well traveled by many true seekers of the truth.

In the meantime if a person can become more caring, kind, more of a friend to others, that's a super good thing, these qualities are to be applauded and encouraged. 
Yes, even though this topic is massive, luckily the solution is very enjoyable and very simple.

Yoga Meditation Studio Palm Beach offer classes in Coolangatta

It's been almost 2 years since YMSPB other wise known as Yoga Meditation Studio Palm Beach, one of the yoga studios that form part of the YMSA partnership joined forces with a couple of local yoga studios from the Coolangatta Tweed area to offer a variety of holistic, health and well being classes, all under one roof. The venue is now called Kirtan Kooly.

These qualified yoga meditation teachers still run their own individual studios but have reached out to the public and have made it more convenient and central for people to get to classes.

Ukulele classes for beginners, magical Sound healing with Tibetan singing bowls, FREE meditation classes, Yoga Nidra, Hatha Yoga, Yoga dance for children, Hatha for children, Vegetarian and Vegan demonstrations, will be available.

Special Events like FREE Open Days and regular Mini Retreats will also be on offer.

We hope you will drop over and visit, take advantage of the FREE, by donation and low cost community programs we are offering.

Vegan Pesto - Delicious

Vegan Pesto

1 ½ cups basil (loose packed)
½ - 1 cup pine nuts
½ cup walnuts
¼ - ½ cup nutritional yeast flakes
2 cloves garlic or  a garlic substitute
½ tsp himalayan sea salt
6oz - 80z organic oil (add more if needed)
Squeeze of lemon

Place all ingredients into a blender and process until smoothly chunky.

Use on organic breads, rice crackers, brown rice, whole wheat pasta, or  raw zucchini pasta.

Add olives and tomatoes or red peppers. Spice it up by adding a small amount of hot fresh chilli. Get your digestion firing.  So quick and simple to prepare, healthy and delicious ...Yum!

Morish Choc Butter Squares

Ingredients:

Dark Chocolate:

2 cups coconut oil
1/2 cup Vermont maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup cacao powder

Peanut Butter Filling:

1 1/2 cups natural peanut butter, room temperature
8 tablespoons coconut butter, (or oil) room temperature
1/2 cup Vermont maple syrup
1/4 teaspoon salt (a bit more if you don’t use salted peanut butter)
Nuts (optional)

How to:

1. Melt coconut oil in double broiler with maple syrup and salt. Sift in cacao powder and stir well until mixture becomes smooth and dark.

2. Line a 9-inch square glass dish with plastic wrap. Pour half the chocolate mixture into the dish and place in freezer until hard, 20 to 30 minutes. Meanwhile
make peanut butter filling.

3. Using a stand mixer with whisk attachment, beat peanut butter and butter about 5 minutes, until mixture is fluffy. Beat in maple syrup and salt. Add your nuts here if you decide to use them in your recipe.

4. Once chocolate layer is frozen, spread peanut butter filling over top. Place in freezer until firm, about 30 minutes.

5. If remaining chocolate mixture has hardened, reheat to make it liquid again. Once peanut butter filling is firm, pour over remaining chocolate mixture.

6. Place in freezer 30 more minutes or longer.

7. When you are ready to cut into squares, remove dish from freezer and allow it to sit on the counter about 10 minutes and then lift up the plastic wrap, which
allows for a little easier release.  Cut into very small squares as this is quite rich.

8. Refrigerate squares, as coconut oil is very soft at room temperature. Remove from fridge about 10 minutes before you want to eat one to allow it to soften
up a bit.

Makes approx 30 Pieces

YMSA Yoga Meditation Studio Palm Beach - Kindness

This photo has been doing the rounds on Facebook. It is very heart warming to see these guys helping this sheep. Wouldn't It be nice if more people were kind to animals.

Yes It's Cool To Be Kind

The benefits of kindness range from your emotional health, right down to your cardiovascular and nervous systems. It was in 1979 that psychologists first coined the term called "helpers' high" after a survey found that charity volunteers felt happier.

When a person performs an act of kindness the brain produces dopamine. Secondly, the brain has its own natural versions of morphine and heroine: endogenous opioids, such as endorphins. It is believed that when a person does a kind act they feel good on a chemical level thanks to the production of these endogenous opioids.


Why not set yourself a challenge, practice one act of random kindness everyday.  Pay someone a compliment, be helpful or thoughtful. Try to do something you wouldn't usually do, but which will make a difference. Don't limit yourself to humans, try to help animals also.

There's a very worthy cause circulating virally right now called Meatless Monday, if you are an animal lover or even if you're not, you might like to consider taking part. Studies have shown a vegetarian / vegan lifestyle choice has very beneficial effects on the environment, it's an opportunity for you and your family to get creative, investigate healthy wholesome food options, vege recipes, or introduce more fruit and smoothies into your diet. The humble Smoothie has taken the world by storm (more on that later). We hope you will give this idea some thought, you have nothing to loose and heaps to gain, you can improve your health and the health of your family while contributing to saving the environment.


The great thing about practicing Yoga mantra meditation is that this meditation technique quickly brings about a profound and noticeable softening of the heart. Qualities like compassion, patience, tolerance, respect, love and care towards all living beings become second nature to a sincere practitioner. 

The science and philosophy which forms the heart of this practice is based on Truth and knowledge (Vedas) This is a very ancient and timeless practice, the beneficial effects are as potent today, in this modern era as they have always been since the  beginning of time. All sentient beings benefit from this extraordinary, simple and enjoyable practice.

You will perceive a change for sure. Not only will you notice an increase in good qualities and the falling away of not so good qualities, you will gradually over time find that your world view begins to change.  How you percieve life and other living beings begins to shift. This simple little practice is pretty awesome and truly has the power to transform a persons life.
